If you're reading this post, you certainly know that brakes are the most inadequate equipment we have on our trial-bikes.
Some riders are not bothered by the next facts with the famous HS33 (or Echo TR/SL too) :
- need to grind the rims to have an acceptable brake,
- any chance to ride silently,
- setting the brake each week to keep a "not-as-good-as-they-say" brake,
- any chance to ride with a rim which is not perfectly straight.
But what are the other solutions ? Double-disc. Or brakeless. But it's really difficult to ride without brake during competitions (this type of riding will have an article)...
Double-disc is currently acceptable on 20" only. Yes, it's very subjective, but it's the politics of this blog.
But I've reasons to say that.
With bigger wheels, 6" discs are too little (for a "classical" -standard brakes and pads- mounting), and 7 or 8" discs are too exposed (6" can receive a protection, more informations in a future article).
So, for 24 and 26" trial-bikes, we've got two solutions, the choice is depending what's your priority. I'll detail that in future articles (to have more details, more explanations, etc...), but you have these two solutions : v-brakes and double-disc (no, I've not smoked !).
